Curtis is a renowned figure in the Suffolk County community, educating people on fair housing, rental rights, and rent discrimination. Del Monte is a part of the Suffolk County Minority Health Action Coalition Insurance Committee, the Illinois Association of Fundraising Professionals Diversity Committee, and the Suffolk County Women's Advisory Council. She has served as president of New York State's regional affirmative action officers, representative of the Human Rights Commission on the Suffolk County African-American Advisory Board, and is a member and former trustee of the Living Hope Fellowship Missionary Baptist Church. Additionally, she was an advisor to the Lesbian, Gay, and Bisexual Social Workers Caucus, co-chaired the Suffolk County Lesbian, Gay, and Bisexual Affairs Committee and the New York State NASW, co-chaired the Lesbian, Gay, and Bisexual Teachers Network, and served on the Steering Committee of President Clinton's Initiative on Race at Stony Brook.
She has also been president and vice-chair of the Southold Town Anti-Prejudice Working Group and co-chair of the Justice Administration Committee of the Suffolk County Human Rights Commission. Currently she is co-chair of the Economic Development Committee and corresponding secretary of the Suffolk County National Coalition of 100 Black Women.
